Providing Accessible and Safe Water Sources in Timo

The Haiti Health Initiative (HHI) is dedicated to improving the lives of the Timo community in Haiti by enhancing their access to clean, safe water sources. Through our water projects, we work to upgrade and repair existing water systems, as well as identify new springs and water access points to ensure year-round access to clean drinking and irrigation water.

Project Highlights

In a single trip, our team was able to:

• Install 2,000 feet of pipe, including 7 new water fountains on the existing system and 1 on a new spring source (the Steve spring)
• Increase the total laid pipe by more than quadruple the previous amount
• Directly provide clean water access to 212 individuals from 37 families through the installed fountains
• Serve hundreds of additional families and passersby who use the public water fountains daily

Community Engagement and Sustainability

All aspects of the water project planning, installation, and maintenance are completed in partnership with local Haitians. We demonstrate the processes, explain the reasons behind them, and provide detailed instructions on how to repair and protect the water system. This empowers community leaders to take ownership, continue our work, and educate others on maintaining the safe water access.

Future Goals

Upcoming water projects will address:

• Upgrading and repairing current water systems
• Identifying additional spring sources
• Developing safe water access points at the river
• Expanding distribution piping for year-round irrigation

Importantly, we are also planning for the long-term maintenance of the water systems. This includes securing funding and training community members on proper maintenance techniques. Our goal is to contribute to the self-sufficiency and overall sustainability of the safe water access in Timo, Haiti.
