Nutrition
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Haiti has the highest percentage of individuals suffering from undernourishment in the Western Hemisphere, with 57% of the population affected. Additionally, the country faces high rates of anemia and a lack of dietary diversity. The Haiti Health Initiative (HHI) is committed to tackling this critical issue through our comprehensive nutrition projects.
The primary focus of our nutrition experts is to educate the Haitian population on basic nutrition principles and strategies to improve their diet for better health and well-being. To achieve this, we work closely with local community members to overcome the challenges of accessing nutritious, affordable, and safe food.
Our team of nutrition experts also trains community health workers to assist in developing sustainable plans for continued health and nutrition education even after our departure. These community health workers are taught to promote general nutrition, proper food preparation, hygiene, and the importance of breastfeeding.
In addition to nutrition education, our projects also involve the establishment of community gardens. These gardens not only provide a reliable source of nutritious produce, but also encourage the people of Timo to incorporate a greater variety of foods into their daily diets.
To ensure the long-term success of our nutrition initiatives, we work closely with local organizations and the Haitian government. By fostering these partnerships, we aim to build a comprehensive and sustainable approach to addressing malnutrition in the region.
Your contribution to our nutrition projects can make a significant and lasting impact on the lives of the people in Timo. Your support will enable us to expand our nutrition education efforts, establish community gardens, and empower local health workers to drive sustainable change in the community.

Haiti Health Initiative aims to improve the overall health and well being of rural Haitians, one community at a time. We seek to accomplish this through providing education and services in primary health care, dental care, public health, and nutrition within each community at risk.
