Arup partners Alex, Aidan, and Rossini and HHI representatives Matt and Doug returned 2/3/2017 from their week-long trip to Haiti. The goals of their trip included a visit to the site where the Timo school will be built later this year. They also sought input from the Timo community, observed Haitian construction processes, investigated the local building materials, and met with authorities regarding the construction of the school.
Our five visiting professionals and six Haitian partners successfully completed the site investigation and workshops in Timo and visited other buildings in the nearby cities of Jacmel and Leogane.
Those involved in the visit have reported that the the visit was “very valuable” and that they were “touched when they saw [the current location] where the students are going to school.” The site survey provided valuable results. The engineers reported that “the site is good” and that the soil at the location is suitable for construction of the school. In addition, they marked the site for excavation.
