The staff at Country Hill Eye Center have been going the extra mile for Haiti by choosing Haiti Health Initiative (HHI) as their service project for the year.
The idea for the service project began about eight months ago when Ophthalmologist Dr. Brad Richards gave a presentation to his staff for a CME requirement regarding third-world medicine, and Haiti was part of that presentation. Those listening to the presentation caught the vision and became really excited about making a difference in Haiti.
The staff made a poster (see below) which they posted in their lobby to invite people to donate used eyeglasses or money directly to HHI. The glasses will be used during a trip planned for April 2015 to improve the eyesight of Haitians.
In addition to the previously stated initiative, the staff felt they could do more. They went the extra mile by donating money and collecting contributions from local businesses to make newborn kits and dental kits. A local grocery store made a large donation of materials, and many smaller donations were received from other local businesses. The kits will be assembled in time for the trip in April.
“The interesting thing is that this all came from them, without me having to ask or prompt,” said Dr. Brad Richards.
Way to go, Dr. Richards and all those who have contributed time and means to make a difference! Lives will be positively impacted as a result of your proactive efforts. Your efforts are much appreciated.
