Weekly Report 38: (March 7-14, 2024)

Reflections:
The construction of the Timo Community School is a tale of sacrifice and courage by numerous individuals. Local daily laborers from Timo have demonstrated remarkable strength while transporting heavy cement bags and blocks through rugged and muddy trails. Truck loaders in warehouses have loaded trucks during nighttime, and truck drivers have braved early mornings to avoid barricades and riots. Similarly, akin to military personnel who leave their homes and families during deployment, project engineers, foremen, and skilled workers not native to Timo have left their loved ones behind. Traveling from Timo to Port-au-Prince is challenging because gangs control most of the streets and roads. There are risks involved in returning home, including the threat of losing one’s life going home or being stranded at home. Ing. Francillon explained that, “ the logistic engineer spent Christmas in Timo, separated from his family, and hasn’t returned home for six months.” Ing. Franctillon, who abandoned his home near Port-au-Prince one year ago, said, “ it [this decision] was an obligation, not a choice.”
