Revitalizing Haitian Farmland
Agriculture
Agriculture
Agriculture is a fundamental pillar for improving the health and well-being of rural Haitians. By revitalizing farmland and teaching sustainable growing techniques, HHI nourishes communities and directly addresses the challenges of food insecurity in the Timo region.

Goal

Sustainable Development Philosophy
HHI focuses on teaching agricultural principles and demonstrating effective farming examples to the local population. This methodology is designed to foster independence, with the ultimate goal being that the local community will eventually no longer require external assistance. We believe in giving tools, not handouts.
Community Gardens and Food Production
Our agricultural programs include establishing community gardens and expanding local food production capabilities. School gardens have become flourishing components of our community support, providing both educational opportunities and nutritious produce for students and families.
Nutritional Integration
Agricultural expansion is intrinsically linked to our broader mission of improving nutritional opportunities. By increasing the availability of healthy food sources, HHI seeks to combat malnutrition and promote healthier dietary habits within the community.
Holistic Collaboration
HHI's agricultural efforts are integrated into a wider, holistic strategy that encompasses medical, dental, and educational projects. We work alongside local groups, such as the FPF (a collective of farmers dedicated to improving their conditions), to align agricultural development with the community's health needs.
Training and Capacity Building
We provide hands-on training in sustainable farming techniques, including crop rotation, soil management, and water conservation for agriculture. By building local agricultural knowledge, we ensure that these improvements are maintained and expanded long after our volunteer teams have departed.
- Sustainable farming techniques and crop rotation
- Seed and tool distribution
- Irrigation improvements and water management
- Community garden programs and school gardens
- Partnership with local farming cooperatives
